Salt Project

The Salt Project Needs You!

The Salt Project is looking for Master Water Stewards to help monitor excess salt usage in the City of Minneapolis’s Special Service Districts. If you live, work or frequent any one of the SSDs and are interested in being a Salt monitor for the coming winter please contact Joe Knaeble.

On the City of Mpls. webisite enter Special Service Districts in the search box and the first page to come up has a link to the map. We will need at least one Steward in each SSD so if you frequent more than one you can sign up for several.

Thank you!!!!!

Pollinator-Friendly Raingarden Workshop

Help protect our lakes and rivers while creating a beautiful and pollinator-friendly habitat in your yard! This free workshop on Saturday, April 16, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at Linden Hills Park, will explore raingardens and other simple changes you can make on your property to reduce stormwater runoff and help protect water quality. Following a brief presentation you will have an opportunity to talk with certified Master Water Stewards about your particular property, as well as resources for hire if you need some extra help. You’ll also receive information about cost share programs and how you can apply to the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District for grants to help pay for raingardens and other improvements to your yard.

Master Water Stewards are needed to answer questions and consult with participants about options for improving storm water management on their properties.

Linden Hills Corn Feed

As part of our community engagement for our capstone project, my capstone partner and I will have a table at the Linden Hills Corn Feed on August 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. We will have literature and a raffle and give out coupons for stormwater consultations with a master water steward. The event usually draws 300-400 people for “games, food, music and fun with friends and neighbors at this annual neighborhood event.” We would appreciate help from another master water steward or two for all part of the time, to help answer questions and inspire people to use stormwater BMPs.

Minnehaha Creek Clean-Up Staffing

The 9th Annual Minnehaha Creek Cleanup is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, and is poised to be the biggest and best event yet! We are aiming to collect a whopping 3 tons of trash from around Minnehaha Creek and Minneapolis lakes.

This year’s event will remain headquartered at Lake Hiawatha Park in Minneapolis and offer a satellite location at the Knollwood Super Target store in St. Louis Park. The MCWD is once again sponsoring the cleanup with the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company’s “Canoes for a Cause” campaign in partnership with Metro Blooms, the Freshwater Society and Target.

DO NOT SIGN UP ONLINE – we do not need you as volunteers, we need you as STAFF and therefore sign up by e-mailing
